Why is a person having thyroid disorder not allowed to eat Cabbage?

My wife has hyperthyroid. She loves cabbage but now is not allowed eat Cabbage. WHy??

    Cabbage is one of the goitrogens (others being soya products, cauli flower & broccoli). Goitrogens interfere with iodine utilization and may block mechanism that transports iodine to the cells. They may also promote formation of a goiter.
