Iodized salt is a must.Avoid high calorie (Starchy)and fatty diet in order to avoid accumulation of excess calories in the form of fat deposits to prevent weight gain.Non-starchy fibres and protein intake need to be increased to maintain calorie intake.Alcohol is also not recommended since it causes weight gain and affects thyroid functioning.
Cruciferous vegetables, may suppress thyroid function. These include broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, kohlrabi, lima beans, mustard greens, radishes, spinach, sweet potatoes and turnips.Avoid these.
Too much of Walnuts, cotton seed meal, soya flour ,Suppliments containing Iron and calcium need to be avoided, since they prevent absorption of synthetic hormones if you are on treatment. .
