Can medicines and treatment help someone with thyroid troubles live a relatively normal life?

Thyroid glands either overwork or work subnormally. This needs medicines to nueutralize its effects or hormone replacement .Once you are given mediicines for this, there is no reason why you cannot live a normal life. But medicines need to be taken life long and regular blood thyroid levels need to be done.
